I have been asked by many to explain how I curl my hair. I feel kinda silly showing you guys because it is so simple, I don't really have any hidden secrets. I realize I look pretty ridiculous in this video so don't judge haha and yes that little noise in the background was Hanes, he was loving it! I tried explaining everything the best I could so please if you have any questions feel free to ask.
(I couldn't figure out how to make the video any bigger, so make sure you expand it.)

Thank YOu! I am so excited to try this! Your hair is absolutely gorgeous. I hope mine works out. I doubt mine will like yours though because my hair is super heavy.
ReplyDeletep.s. you did great for your first instructional video!
thank you so much! im sure yours will turn out great!
ReplyDeleteLove your hair! You said in your video you only wash your hair about every 5 days..Do you use any product to keep your hair from getting super greasy?
ReplyDeleteSprinkle baby powder on your scalp and run your fingers through your hair. Then flip it upside down and blow dry it. You can go for days without washing your hair using this trick.
DeleteYou can also buy dry shampoo and powder puff volume products to use. I have dark hair, so baby powder doesn't work, but I purchased a dry shampoo from Superstore or Wal-Mart and the powder puff is a powder that volumizes your roots.
DeleteI have just recently discovered how well using dry shampoo works and let me tell you my life is so much easier now!!! I have always heard people say they go several days between washes and thought how is that possible?! My hair looks greasy the next dang day. I bought Dove dry shampoo and you just spray some on your roots and brush through and ta freaking dah no grease. GENIUS!!!
DeleteYou can also use corn starch for the same thing.
DeleteI have brown hair and baby powder works for me just fine. Sometimes you have to rub/brush your scalp a little more to get it to blend and use a little less baby powder than you would if your hair was blond, but it def works and is WAY cheaper than dry shampoo! Hope this helps :)
DeleteJust came across this on pinterest. Loved it! This maybe a silly question but is moroccan oil and moroccan argon oil pretty much the same? And where do you buy your oil? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe oil she is using is the brand Moroccan oil. It is argon oil which can be found in other products. There are several brands right now that are argon oil treatments. The Moroccan brand is pretty good. It also has a light version for those who don't have such thick hair. My hair is very thick so I use the regular. Now to find the Moroccan brand you have to search out beauty supplies. Not all of them carry it. For example Pure Beauty does not carry the line . It carries other versions. Hope this helps.
DeleteMy hair is super straight and pretty much nothing works on it, but this kind of did so thanks!
ReplyDeleteYayy!!! I love this!
DeleteHow do you do your hair when you go to sleep? Do you pin it up or do you leave it down?
ReplyDeleteI just set it up above my head!
Deletei have the same question about washing your hair every 4 or so days! Mine seems to get greasy like after 1 day but i guess it may be because your hair texture is "coarse" and mine is "fine"
ReplyDeleteI'd really love to see a make up video tutorial as well as that top knot tutorial you've been talking about! Do you get your hair dyed one color and get highlights on top of that? I'm a brunette but i really want the same type of idea but in brown! lol
I have fine hair too. I think fine hair does get oily faster :( And my hair wouldn't hold that curl for 1 day let alone 4 even with lots of product. I wish I had course hair!
Deletehey ladies sorry for taking so long to answer your questions!
ReplyDelete1st i sleep with my hair just down, I usually just lay it above my head while I sleep.
2nd I will sometimes use some dry shampoo on the third or fourth day of not washing my hair and I usually use Oscar Blandi volumizing dry shampoo spray but I'm sure most will work.
3rd I'm sorry ladies I promise I will get on top of that top knot and make up tutorial! They will be coming soon so please keep checking in and looking for them. I love all the requests! They make me feel so loved!
4th For coloring my hair I usually just get the blonde highlights on top of my natural hair color. My lady uses foils too if that helps at all? She is a genius!
Thank you all for following!!! Please keep up the comments, i love them!
what do you do to get your tan? tell me everything please!? :D
ReplyDeleteThanks!
If i use anything I just use the gradual Jergens lotion!
DeleteWow I stumbled onto this by accident thank you so much your tutorial was just awesome and you are such a beautiful woman too - thanks all the way from Australia!
ReplyDeleteOh yay! Thank you so much!!
DeleteI can totally try this! I love this thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteso cute! What size curling iron are you using?
ReplyDeleteAndrea
It like 1" 1/4! I hope it works!
Deletethe treseme ultra fine hair mist hairspray is my FAVE, I bet you'd love it. it's super light weight but still hold well, perfect for these curls. and if I need more I just use more, it's the best hairspray ever. great tutorial!
ReplyDeletegreat video! you did a great job explaining everything :) one question though...what temperature do you set the curling iron at?
ReplyDeleteHow do u do ur cute buns?
ReplyDeleteYou might like Paul Mitchell Worked Up. It's a working spray with "flexible memory" so it's not super strong, but it doesn't feel sticky at all and still allows your hair to move. You can even run your fingers through your hair and they won't get stuck! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat video! Super easy! Do you blow dry your hair first? My hair is pretty wavy naturally, so I'm wondering if I would have to blow dry first and then curl or if it would work on my natural waves.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
what temperature do you have your curling iron on?
ReplyDeleteUsusally just the hottest!
DeleteTry Moroccan Oil's hair spray. I prefer the medium hold. It doesn't feel tacky in the hair yet helps calm down frizz and holds the style. It smells amazing too which doesn't hurt either :)
ReplyDeletehey! i have a curling iron, when my hair was that long i curled it the same way but my iron works so much faster! i would barely have to hold mine for five seconds, it takes maybe 5, 10 minutes tops to do it. its a pink hot shot tools 3/4 inch (i have the same brand in one inch, i like it both ways). it wasnt very expensive, i have had it forever and have never had any issues with it. it heats up really fast too. i realize though that everyones hair is different, so if ya ever wanted to use it to see if you like it on yours, lemme know :) but i love it and personally think it would save you SO much time!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much!
DeleteI found your hair tutorial via Pinterest. Did it this am and it rocks! Loving this blog!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, I am new to your site! I was wondering where you got your sweater you are wearing in this video? Also, do you wear hair extensions, if so, what type? It would be great to talk about extensions in a tutorial. Thanks for the postings. =)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! It's a Livestrong by Nike! and i now have an entire post on extesions! check them out!
DeleteGreat blog! I am a new follower! :) I usually curl my hair like this...but I think yours is so much prettier! I love how thick and long it is! And.....your whole blog is adorable! Can't wait to keep reading!
ReplyDeleteThank you so so much! Your so sweet!
DeleteYour hair is GORGEOUS! I wish I could get mine to do that :(
ReplyDeletexo Shane
Im sure you could!! Thank you so much!!
DeleteFound this tutorial on Pinterest. I've always been able to do my hair in tight curls but these loose waves have never held. Today they held up to the New York City heat. Love this!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I love hearing that!!!
DeleteJust found you via pinterest. You are stinking CUTE! I am so excited to follow you! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so so much!!
Deletei love your shirt, where did you get it?!
ReplyDeleteIt's Livestrong by Nike!! Thank you!
DeleteHow do you get your hair cut? Like do you have long layers or what? I love it!
ReplyDeleteI do very slight layers but mostly just trimmed at the ends! Thank you!!
Deleteget video!! great HAIR!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,KT
Sequins,Mint&Love
Thanks so much!!
DeleteCara, Spray and Play Harder isn't as sticky and works way better! You have to get it instead of just the Spray & Play! Even better than that is the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal!
ReplyDeleteAhh thank you!!
DeleteLove your hair!! I am growing mine out and it will end up being similar to yours eventually. Keeping it healthy is key and I have found that coconut oil works wonders. It is cheap, effective and works great as a body oil, too. I leave it in overnight at least once a week and have noticed a difference. Try the Moroccan oil hairspray - it is my favorite by far and smells great!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try this technique. I have really long hair too but my curls usually fall out by the end of the day if I try to use the bigger curling iron. I think the iron I've been using it too big though - maybe 2 inches - so I'm going to try it your way with my smaller iron.
ReplyDeleteYou have gorgeous hair, by the way! You're so stinkin' cute (:
I have super pin straight hair so usually any curl comes right out and Im back to flat. This is awesome because it gives me volume and even if it comes out a little its still a pretty wave unlike regular curls.
ReplyDelete- Thanks so much love your style
I did this on my hair today and it looks amazing! thanks so much - i cant believe how simple this was!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous. Thank you so much :D
ReplyDeleteDo you think something like this would work with shorter hair? Just past the shoulders? I used to have long hair but I cut it off and am letting it grow back! It's so hard to find things to do with my short hair!
ReplyDeleteThose are my fave type of girls! I found you on Pinterest, and I am loving your tutorial!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness you are so beautiful!!!! I love those curls they are positively gorgeous! My hair (thin thin thin, straight as a rod and 100% slippery) would couldnt do that to save my life, youre so lucky :) great video!
ReplyDeletewonderful tutorial!!! QUESTION: if you work out, do you have to wash your hair after or how do you keep it non greasy?? I know after I workout I am sweaty :) and consequently must shower. i wish i could make it 4 or 5 days without washing but i dont think i can with daily workouts!! any tips??
ReplyDeleteI have flat stringy straight hair on top, and coarse curly hair on the bottom. If I put mouse in in and let it dry will that work? I hate using hair spray too!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that hairstyle and I rock it almost every day. I was just curious as to the color of your hair! I've been experimenting with different shades of blonde but I LOVE yours. Do you happen to know the name? And do you dye your hair or get highlights??
ReplyDeleteWow! I also stumbled upon your video and you have gorgeous hair!!! Thanks so much for letting us know step by step to get such an 'expensive look'. Looking forward to checking out your other videos!!!
ReplyDeleteI found your video on pinterest, loved your hair, and immedietly purchased a curling iron. I can't tell you how much this has improved the look of my hair! I have unruly curly hair and love to straighten it, but it takes a lot of time and patience. I started doing this and it only takes me 20 minutes! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI wonder for us straight haired girls if curling the hair would be better the day after you've washed, so it's a little dirty and not so slippery? Cara, have you tried this style on any friends that have straight hair? Just curious what works to keep the curl, mine fall out several hours later, it's a bummer.
ReplyDeleteLet me just say.. I have tried EVER tutorial out there to get these beach waves and yours is the ONLY one that I have found to work. Thank you thank you thank you!! Great job at explaining it!
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial! Thanks. I have always tried to use my Chi for waves, but I will definitely try a curling iron next time. Good job for your first tutorial!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I found your tutorial very helpful.
ReplyDeleteHi Cara. Today is my first time on your site and I am enjoy it. found you on Pinterest and thought you were too cute!
ReplyDeleteI too have naturally curly, coarse hair and I too only wash it about once a week.:P I feel like people with curly, coarse hair pull off the no was better as it takes longer for our hair to show how oily and dirty it really is. I curly my hair the exact same why (in section starting from the bottom up) as you do. It's like you're my hair twin but just blond. lol
I normally just barrel curl my hair with a 1" curling iron. Curling it all one direction and I do use the clamp to get the barrel curls. I use the root to end curling technique and I pick comb out my hair once I'm done to give it a looser looking curl. I find that the curls last longer when I put all of my hair in a low loose bun whenever I sleep, workout or shower. I'm not sure why the loose bun keeps the curl but it totally does. I just take it out of the bun, flip my hair upside down and Bam! The sexy curls are back. I do go through the top crown of my hair to redefine that area. And I too don't use or need to use product to keep the life of the curl.
But my question to you is when doing these sexy loose spiral curls you showed us in your tutorial that I'm planning on trying, how do you pull back your hair when you sleep, workout and shower so that the curls keep their form and last for a week without ruin them with kinks or killing the curl?
You are too cute. Hi Cara Loren. I feel like you're my hair twin, but my blond one. Lol
ReplyDeleteI too have naturally curly, coarse hair and I never wash my hair either. :P I usually just barrel curl my hair with a 1" curling iron in all the same direction. And then pick comb it once I'm done to give it a looser sexier curl. Mine as well last all week but find that it help keep its curl all week when I put my hair in a loose low bun whenever I workout, shower and sleep. I'm not sure why the bun works to hold my curls shape but it totally does.
My question for you is when you style your hair with these loose sexy spiral waves how do you pull back your hair while working out, showering and sleeping and keep these curls lasting all week long without having them get ugly kinks or ruin the curl shape? I am planning on curling my hair using your technique but I'm wondering what tips you can give me on keeping them alive while still being active?
Thanks and happy holidays.
I found your tutorial on Pinterest. This worked so well and I got so many compliments!!! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteSo I just did this and it looks great. Super easy and it didn't take long at all. Thanks for the helpful video.
ReplyDeleteI also got some Morracan oil and it's great.
ABSOLUTELY amazing... I just stumbled on this last night and tried it for the first time today... curls came out perfectly and looked by far a million times better than I have ever done with a curling iron!!!
ReplyDeleteMy hair is also very fine, but I have a lot of it, so I am hoping the curls last through at least tomorrow.
Thank you so very much for doing this video!!! Look forward to more! :)
Love your tutorial on pinterest. Ijust got the moroccan styling cream is that ok or do I need the moroccan oil? thanks
ReplyDeleteIs moroccan styling cream , and the moroccan oil the same? thanks
ReplyDeletewhat is your opinion on extensions?
ReplyDeleteLOVED your waves tutorial! I have been trying to work up the guts to record my own. If your are looking for the PERFECT hairspray, Moroccanoil has two awesome flexible hold hairsprays. They have Moroccanoil infused into them and leave your hair soft and shiny. I can use unlimited amounts of the strong hold and it never feels stiff or crunchy. Try it out! http://www.moroccanoil.com/usa/h_us_en/luminous-hairspray
ReplyDeleteTAHNKS SO MUCH! Great tutorial!!!!! Love you and your hair, gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks beautiful, and thanks for the tutorial. The only question I have is how do you sleep with it at night--do you put it up in a ponytail or bun or just keep it loose? How do you keep it looking good for 3 days?
ReplyDeleteI loved your tutorial. I have such a hard time getting my hair to curl, so I can't wait to try this! I noticed you were talking about hairspray and how you hate it. I hate it too, however I found this hairspray it's by Aveda. It's called air control. it's never sticky and it's completely amazing. I usually use it to spray my bangs and then the next day, it's like it was never there! You do have gorgeous hair!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat color shade/brand do you dye your hair? love it
ReplyDeletethank you! it is just beautiful! can't wait to try it :) have a great day!
ReplyDeleteAwesome video and gorgeous hair! What do you do the next morning? Do you just use the pick on it?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tutorial. I tried doing this to my hair today - and it worked great! I have been wanting loose wavy curls for ages, and had no idea how to do it. Seems so simple now.
ReplyDeletethanks so much! im gonna try and tame my curls into gorgeous waves!!! xx
ReplyDeleteDoes your method work for thinner shoulder length hair? :/
ReplyDeleteDo you think it will work well with thin shorter hair?
ReplyDeleteWhich curling iron do you use, the company and type?
ReplyDeleteyou're hair is gorgeous! now, I have a question. do you put you're hair up when you sleep? I know you mentioned tat the curls last you a few days so I was wondering if you put you're hair up or if you leave it down when you sleep. thanks for the video, can't wait to try it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for making this video. I have always wondered how girls get that look but could never figure it out on my own. I have found all these picture tutorials but I'm more of a hands on visual learner. So actually seeing someone do helped so much!!!! Thanks again your a lifesaver!
ReplyDeleteYou have absolutely gorgeous hair and I love this tutorial! This may seem like a very weird question, but I was wondering what kind of camera you used to film yourself? I'm thinking of doing some video diaries and I don't have anything but a little kodak camera and I'm worried that the sound will be terrible. Your sound is really great, so I just thought I'd ask. I can't wait to try this curling technique on my hair. Thanks!

AWESOME but this looks so great, largely because you have GREAT hair! I have very fine hair and no matter what I ever do, it will never look like this. I wish.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! This looks so good, largely because you have GREAT hair! I have very fine hair, so no matter what I ever do, it will never look like this. Great tutorial for gals who have similar texture and length of hair tho.
ReplyDeleteAhh..! I did this to my hair tonight and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my hair.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU
ahh..! I just did this to my hair tonight and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU..!
You should try BedHead Masterpiece hairspray. Its the best! It has great hold but is never sticky or tacky no matter how much you pile on, breaks up amazingly when you brush through but still holds the curl and it has a great shine! Its my must have staple!
ReplyDelete-Em
I just tried this tutorial this morning, and I can't get over how full my hair looks!! Thank you so much for posting!
ReplyDeleteI have long hair as well and I'm wondering how layered your hair is?
